Co-development of Manufacturing Control Systems for small and medium sized dockyard customers worldwide.

The Korean shipbuilding technologies, already the world's top class, are going to reach the global market, in SW packages.

POSCO ICT (President & CEO: Choi, Doo Whan) and DSME (CEO: Ko, Jae Ho) have decided to develop a master production control system for shipbuilding which encompass the shipbuilding and IT industry to support small and medium shipbuilders.

POSCO ICT, in a joint project, is planning to simplify and lighten the combined production control system of DSME employing the world's top shipping technologies in order to provide the solutions to domestic and foreign, small and medium dockyards.

To this end, both companies have entered into a MOU for business cooperation at Pangyo company buildings of POSCO ICT which will bring this SW package development project to a full bloom. The system is designed to consolidate the entire process of shipbuilding from design to manufacture, launching and delivery to customers.

This master production control system has so far only been developed internally and used by large shipbuilders with higher capacities for investment. Therefore, the SW package at this time designed to support small and medium sized shipbuilders, who could not afford any grand system, will hopefully converge the Korean shipbuilding and IT industries to pave the way for their advancement into the global market.

"This joint project will lay the foundation for creative business through IT technologies implanted in the shipbuilding industry," said an official from POSCO ICT, "We are going to continue to expand these types of projects and cooperations also in other business areas."

In the meantime, POSCO ICT has developed a combined production management system that can be applied to steel mills abroad by making use of their know-how in the same industry.

In particular, the company has established a “smart industry system” for Chinese steel manufacturers including Nanjing and Jinan Steel as well as SAIL, an Indian state-run steel manufacturer and ISPAT Steel, committed to expanding associated business opportunities.
