POSCO ICT (CEO: Choi Doowhan) has been selected as a company to direct a project to introduce a new communication infrastructure for the 2nd passengers’ terminal in IIA (Incheon International Airport).

The communication infrastructure for IIA consists of communication systems for the airport and flight. POSCO ICT will be in charge of implementing the infrastructure for the former. The project, which is a 25billion won scale, is going to continue to September 2017.

POSCO ICT is expected to introduce video/broadcasting systems to guide passengers about take-off and landing information of airplanes as well as a real-time monitoring system to ensure stabilized operation of these communication infrastructures.

POSCO ICT has tried to obtain know-how about relevant services while running the entire communication infrastructures of the 1st passengers’ terminal including communications for the airport and flight, since 2012. The company explained that it is poised to successfully implement this project based on its accumulated technical advancement in aviation and could upgrade the performance of whole systems.

On top of this, POSCO ICT introduced a BHS (Baggage Handling System) for IIA at the point the airport opened its service and has been running it until the moment. BHS, which is designed to transport passengers’ baggage automatically from aircrafts, has been approved to be outstanding in accuracy up to 20 times better than those in other countries including U.S. and Europe.

POSCO ICT is, now, making effort to develop overseas markets on the basis of its reputation regarding airport business. The company is planning to develop a BHS which is designed to serve a large airport but can be applied to mid- and small-size airports and introduce it to mid-size airports in Vietnam, Thailand, etc.

“For an airport, an organic service system and security-oriented operation is critical so it requires an unparalleled expertise in relevant fields,” said an official with POSCO ICT. “We are planning to establish a system for airports around the world, where IT, power supply and control solutions are combined and will actively develop related business opportunities.
