2015.05.20- Services for more efficient operation of Energy Value Chain including power generation, power supply, and consumption
- Major entrance into energy optimization area leveraging its top-tier expertise from a pilot project last year
POSCO ICT (President & CEO: Choi, Doo Whan) has started creating inter-business synergy by providing integrated services focusing on energy optimization.
The Company is pushing ahead with the energy business from a perspective of Total Energy Optimization (TEO), integrating the entire energy circulation process, including power generation/ demand, power supply, and consumption into one value chain. Early this year, the Company launched an organization dedicated to energy optimization, integrating individually operated departments into one, for more efficient operation of the project.
The Company is in possession of high-end technologies needed for unit sectors ranging from the establishment of power generation infrastructure using new and renewable energy to power supply, energy storage system (ESS), Demand Response (DR), and efficient energy use at factories and buildings. Business observers say that the Company has accumulated precious knowhow as one that has pushed forward with the demonstration project for such technologies to jobsites more proactively than any other business in the country. The Company judged that the operation based on individual units has not gone very far to meet the needs of the market and thus decided to provide integrated services.
Thus, POSCO ICT will push ahead with energy projects in a way that will establish the Connected Community Grid (CCG) engaging in production and consumption of energy through the integration of all unit functions. For realization of the CCG, it is necessary to operate the ESS for generation of new and renewable energy and power supply from the KEPCO and the system for energy management concerning buildings and factors within a complex. POSCO ICT’s integrated provision of such functions from a perspective of TEO makes it possible to be supplied with the adequate amount of energy based on accurate estimation about when energy supply is needed. Besides, the Company can balance between its internal power generation and the power supply from the KEPCO based on economic efficiency, with surplus power stored in the ESS or sold back to the KEPCO through DR. The accomplishment of a large-scale CCG through the linkage between unit CCGs will invigorate DR, which will provide support for power transactions between them.
Commenting on the project, Mr.Lim Geunseok, a manager at POSCO ICT said, “So far, power generation, power supply, and consumption has been carried out individually with no one striving to integrate them. We at POSCO ICT have come to take a landmark step for provision of optimal services through the integration of such functions into one.”
