POSCO ICT expands its EV charging infrastructure in cooperation with Hyundai Motor Company which is going to offer a new electric vehicle 'SONATA PLUGIN HYBRID' next month.

POSCO ICT signed an MOU with Hyundai Motor Company on June 26 at the central office of domestic sales of Hyundai Motor Company in Gangnam-gu for expanding the EV charging infrastructure. With this MOU, POSCO ICT will build new 120 EV charging stations, and users of Hyundai electric vehicles will be able to use EV charging service provided by POSCO ICT.

POSCO ICT has already installed and run more than 50 charging stations in Jeju Island, and also built 120 charging stations in 80 branches of E-Mart in cooperation with BMW last year. It has also secured about 180 charging infrastructures in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Busan, Jeju Island, etc. by building and expanding relevant systems in a large shopping mall or hotel, etc. The new 120 EV charging stations are also expected to lead the spread of electric vehicles, as they are going to be installed in such public facilities as a large mart, a movie theater, etc. which provide anyone with easy and convenient access.  

POSCO ICT is also preparing for a membership card service based on the EV charging infrastructure. This will show a new business model where the owners of electric vehicles can use both the charging infrastructures and various additional services which POSCO ICT develops and offers.

An official of POSCO ICT said "although electric vehicles attracted many people's interest, its market failed to expand due to lack of charging facility at the early stage. The cooperation with Hyundai Motor Company, however, will result in the increase of market size through expansion of infrastructure by which anyone can make use of EV charging station in public facilities for daily life."
