- Supplies electrostatic precipitators to reduce ultra-fine dust from coal-fired power plants and steelworks in China
- Replacement market for decrepit environmental equipment expected to grow as standard for pollutant  emission is strengthened

POSCO ICT (President & CEO Choi, Doo Whan) will export electrostatic precipitators designed to remove ultra-fine dust emitted from industrial sites such as coal-fired power plants and steelworks, etc. in China.

POSCO ICT won a contract for 24 units of electrostatic precipitator which will be supplied to Dalian Power Generation Corporation operated by State Power Investment Corporation, one of 5 largest power generation groups in China. In addition, the Company signed supply contracts for over 70 electrostatic precipitators this year with Xiju power plant and Yanshanhu power plant located in Dalian, and Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel which is a subsidiary company of Hebei Iron and Steel Group.

In these projects, POSCO ICT plans to supply the industrial electrostatic precipitators of micro pulse system which the Company developed on its own. Micro Pulse System (MPS) is a system which removes dusts by attaching them to collecting plate using static electricity generated by high voltage pulse.

POSCO ICT's electrostatic precipitators showed outstanding performance in terms of investment cost, operating cost and energy saving and was even certified as 'State-class highest technology' by the China's power corporation association. When using POSCO ICT's electrostatic precipitators, it is possible to improve dust removal rate by 50% or more and reduce use of energy by 80% or more. Especially, investment cost can be significantly saved as efficiency can be raised by replacement of equipment only without an extension of existing dust collection facilities.

According to an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Environment, China lowered the standard for emission of ultra-fine dust from power plants from 40 ㎍ to 20 ㎍ per cubic meter last year. In addition, China's government strengthened regulatory measures by abolishing the upper limit of penalty for air pollution through revision of the air pollution prevention law starting this year. As a result, the environment market size which stood at 97.5 billion yuan in 2012 is expected to grow to 300 billion yuan in 2020.

POSCO ICT plans to expand the supply of Micro Pulse System primarily for coal-fired power plants and develop new markets in regions where many manufacturing plants releasing pollutants such as iron works, power plants, cement plants, etc. in Shandong Province, Liaoning Province and Shanxi Province.

POSCO ICT Managing Director Kim Jong-hyeon said, “POSCO ICT's electrostatic precipitators with high performance at a lower investment cost compared to investment cost for new equipment and their good energy efficiencies are well received in local markets of China. We will further expand the local business base by developing additional customers, especially steel mills and power plants.”

POSCO ICT has aggressively moved forward several environment projects in China since 2011. Starting the supply of MPS to the Tangshan Iron and Steel Group in 2012, it supplied about 100 electrostatic precipitators to 7 thermal power plants belonging to the Datang Corporation, which is one of 5 largest power groups in China in 2014, and received a good response from the customer by supplying the products to Baotou Steel in 2015.
