POSCO ICT (President & CEO: Choi, Doo Whan) launched its cloud services with Amazon Web services (AWS; Representative of Korean Branch: Yeom, Dong-hoon).

POSCO ICT concluded a partnership agreement for business collaboration at the Pangyo office, with CEO Choi, Doo Whan, Came McNaught, Chief Manager of AWS Asia-Pacific Partner Business, and other business-related associates in attendance.

Through this collaboration, POSCO ICT plans to provide total services such as shift to Cloud platform and system operation as well as consulting to offer solutions and IT infrastructure of AWS via Cloud. In addition, they will engage in promotional activities by developing new cloud solutions and services for the domestic business environment.

POSCO ICT has traditionally provided its IT services consisting of system development and operation for each corporation separately. Now, however, it is expanding its business range to Apps on Cloud services through collaboration with AWS. For its part, AWS, with POSCO ICT, can strengthen the base of services targeting not only small and medium-sized businesses including startups but also major corporations .

Earlier, POSCO ICT has prepared to secure its business capacity by fostering expertise in cloud services and shifting its operation system to the AWS cloud platform. Furthermore, POSCO ICT promoted collaboration with Megazone, AWS Korea’s Premier Consulting Partner.

Global IT enterprises such as IBM, MS, and Oracle are all scrambling to enter the domestic Cloud services market, which is expected to lead to the rapid growth of the market. Market research firm Gartner, Inc., predicts that the domestic cloud market will increase to 1.1 trillion KRW by 2018 from 677.5 billion KRW last year, showing annual growth rate of 17.7%. This growth rate is about three times the SW market growth rate of 4.8%. The Korean government enacted the “Cloud Computing Development Law” last year; it is fostering the industry in earnest, which in turn is expected to accelerate market growth.

According to POSCO ICT Senior Vice President Jeong, Duk-kyoon, the current international trend of IT infrastructure such as software and hardware of the enterprise is toward cloud services. They expect to bring about a synergistic effect through the combination of service capability of POSCO ICT and the infrastructure of AWS, he added.
