Doo Whan Choi, POSCO ICT CEO, presented the keynote address on 'Industry 4.0 with the perspective of the Internet'  at Global Mobile Vision (GMV) 2016. which was held at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Ilsan October 6th.

Marking its 9th anniversary, this year’s GMV featured a host of events, including exhibitions, consultations, seminars, conferences, Investor Relation, and more. CEO Choi’s keynote speech on the topic of 'mobile, it's our life'.

CEO Choi explained that "Industry 4.0, which was realized on a national scale by German manufacturing innovation, is now being actively promoted by Korea, Japan, China, the U.S., and others", and that "in order to realize 4th industrial revolution, technology in respective industries as well as technology in the ICT area, such as IoT, big data, and AI, are needed, and the convergence of these technologies is necessary."

He added, "Although several global companies are investing in R&D, there remain limitations that need to be overcome. Germany's Siemens is adept at understanding lower level production equipment but lacks the understanding of upper level systems, such as ERP. In contrast, IBM and Oracle are competent in the upper level systems, but lack the domain knowledge for each individual industry, and are therefore facing difficulty."

CEO Choi concluded the speech by stating, "We have the world's top class industrial domain that can be applied to such problems, and possess the competitiveness in ICT technology and convergence, including big data and AI. Based on various fields of manufacturing competency, we will lead the world's Industry 4.0 market."

Meanwhile, the company has pushed forward the construction of a smart factory in Gwangyang Steelworks' thick plate factory.

Recently, the company has developed smart factory platform, which is called 'PosFrame', making application of continuous processes possible for the first time in history, and is operating its business based on this development in earnest.
