- Charging infrastructure to be built and operated at Daemyung Resort by POSCO ICT and Daemyung Leisure Industry
- First electric car charging infrastructure to be deployed at a resort in Korea; operating range of electric cars in Korea to be expanded considerably
Starting from the vacation season this coming summer, people will be able to drive their electric cars to a famous resort in Korea without having to worry about where to charge their cars.
POSCO ICT (CEO Choi Doo-whan) and Daemyung Leisure Industry (CEO Ahn Young-hyuk) have unveiled a plan to construct electric car charging infrastructure at a resort for the first time in Korea. By signing an agreement, the two companies will begin constructing the charging infrastructure in stages at 15 resorts operated by Daemyung Leisure Industry. The target resorts include Vivaldi Park, Sol Beach Hotel & Resort, Delpino Golf & Resort, and Geoje Marina Resort. Thus, the public should be able to charge their electric cars at a resort as early as this summer. Daemyung Leisure Industry will provide the land for the charging infrastructure, and POSCO ICT will be responsible for constructing and operating the infrastructure.
Electric car charging facilities that are currently in operation in Korea were deployed mainly in public facilities like parking lots and supermarkets in urban areas. Traveling to resorts outside the metropolitan areas with electric vehicles was very troublesome. Now, however, it will become much more convenient because electric car owners will be able to charge their cars during their stay at a resort.
POSCO ICT has already the largest private business partner, which are places where electric car owners park their cars for extended periods of time, such as hotels, movie theaters, and outlets as well as over 100 Emart stores across the country. At these junctions, POSCO ICT constructed charging stations and began operating them. The company is currently the largest private operator of electric vehicle charging stations in Korea.
The two companies also agreed to cooperate in a project for implementing a system that can increase the energy efficiency of Daemyung Resort through energy storage system (ESS) and building energy management system (BEMS).
“The problem of electric cars requiring charging from time to time prevented people from driving their electric cars to countryside resorts. Now, such concerns are a thing of the past. By leveraging the synergy with our existing charging infrastructure, we will provide better service to our customers,” said Kim Jong-hyeon , General Manager of Energy Conversion Business at POSCO ICT.
