POSCO ICT (CEO Choi, Doo Whan) implements the ‘Externship Program’ to develop a project in the overseas ICT area in cooperation with Seoul National University and KAIST.

The ‘Externship Program’ will introduce the excellent ICT technology in Korea to hands-on workers of public institutions and state enterprises related to ICT in developing countries. The program targets foreign students who are currently taking the Global ICT Expert Course (ITTP, ITPP) at Seoul National University and KAIST. For this project, POSCO ICT has signed an MoU with the two universities last year.

This program is designed to secure a network channel for finding an overseas business opportunity by introducing the business capability and technology of POSCO ICT to competent ICT personnel of major countries who can be future customers. As part of this project, POSCO ICT has supported students from 9 countries including Thailand, Mongolia, Nepal, Uzbekistan, and Rwanda to experience its ICT directly and indirectly since July, by running various programs such as visit to the smart factory and introduction to ICT solutions.

Having operated the program since last year, POSCO ICT achieved the excellent result of linking the externship with actual business. The president of Costa Rica visited the POSCO ICT Pangyo building last October 2016 because of this ‘Externship Program’ and signed an MoU on cooperation in implementing the project in the energy area. Introducing POSCO ICT solutions for the development of the national electric car charging infrastructure in Costa Rica is also actively discussed this year.

※ Externship: A mentoring program for both study and business, focuses on experience in the industry field and increase in knowledge on new technology.
