POSCO ICT (CEO Choi Doo Whan) is restructuring the organization to combine various smart technologies such as AI, Big Data, AR and BlockChain with various industry fields in the so called ‘Smart X’ project that is recently speeding up. For this purpose, on the 15th of January, POSCO ICT decided to restructure the organization by adding a new business development Division and a Open Market Business Division.
First, it created a New business development division to integrate various new project efforts scattered all over the company; thus, enhancing the synergy among different projects and deciding to pursue Smart Management, Smart Construction, Market Network, and BlockChain etc. to implement the Smart X solution that is applicable to factories, buildings, power plants and so on.
Also, a Open Market Business Division was newly launched to make sure that the world’s best smart factory and logistic system that used to be provided for the POSCO steelworks is now exported expand to overseas. Furthermore, there are extra efforts for energy consumption efficiency and power saving solutions projects.
POSCO ICT applies IoT to the manufacturing facilities of POSCO steelworks to collect data from the field and based on the big data, it performs real-time analysis and predictions. Also, through AI-based self-learning, it achieves optimal control. All these newly developed technologies are now being expanded to the entire processes of the steelwork. This is the example of the world’s first implementation of smart factory in a continuous process and the heavy industry. During the process, the entire POSCO group made efforts to develop a smart industry platform called PosFrame. And based on the result, in the last year, it started spreading the platform to affiliates such as POSCO energy LNG power plant, POSCO camtech’s cathode factory, and Dongwha Group.
