2018.02.08

- Participates in the project of smart building infrastructure construction for the Doosan Group Bundang Center.
- Applies IoT·Big Data … Constant monitoring of building operation and automatic control

POSCO ICT (CEO Choi, Doo Whan) establishes itself as a leading company domestically by implementing large scale projects in field of smart building applying IoT, Big Data, and AI technology this year.

POSCO ICT will take part in the project that applies the smart building system to the building with 7 floors underground and 27 floors aboveground newly built by the Doosan Group in Bundang, Gyeonggi-do. This project is designed to support optimal building operation that controls energy, communication, security, heating/cooling, and lighting automatically by applying IoT sensors to major equipment of building in order to monitor all situations inside the building, analyze and forecast various data gathered. A total of 68 billion won will be invested in this project for implementation of the smart building only. According to POSCO ICT, this building will be the best landmark in a smart building area in Korea in terms of convenience of residents, building operability, and energy efficiency.

First, energy use inside the building can be monitored in real time using the BEMS (Building Energy Management System) developed on its own. The cooling/heating and air conditioning system will be operated automatically by real time check of the temperature and air condition. Additionally, the operation of major equipment like lighting and elevators will be operated automatically in line with the current situation such as the number of users.

An eco-friendly power generation system will also be applied. In particular, the fuel cell power generation system, which produces electric power and heat using the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, will be applied. The system that reuses the generated heat energy as hot water will also be applied. In addition, energy costs will be reduced to a large extent by applying geothermal heat-based heating and cooling and used-water recycling system.
Since 2016, POSCO ICT has been specializing in the smart building project that integrates ICT with an infrastructure supply project, such as communication, electric power, and machinery applied to the building. The smart building business of POSCO ICT has grown from 135 billion won in 2016 to 250 billion won last year in order amount, making it the largest supplier in Korea. The company recently plans to implement the project that provides the smart construction technology based on the cloud that supports design and construction management in virtual reality simulated in three dimensions, in cooperation with the US’s DPR Construction, which is drawing attention by constructing new Apple company buildings. So, the synergy is expected with smart building business.

“We are becoming a leader in the smart building area by implementing many projects that integrate ICT with the building. Our business will be expanded to the smart city and smart construction, followed by a smart building, by concentrating all capabilities of the POSCO Group,” a POSCO ICT official said.
