Ara Koh took part in a YouTube contents contest organized by POSCO ICT, and submitted a video contents based on her life story. She ended up bagging the most excellent award at the contest.
POSCO ICT took note of the growing interest in individual YouTube media contents and organized the YouTube contents contest for people with disabilities to help them nurture their dreams and hopes. The public contest accepted submissions online from November 6 to December 31 last year, and a total of 90 submissions were received during this period. At the awards ceremony held at POSCO ICT’s Pangyo office building, 1 grand prize, 2 most excellent awards, 3 excellence awards, and 5 encouragement awards were given.
Prior to this contest, POSCO ICT took advantage of its ICT resources and hosted a 3-month program last year to educate people with disabilities about the entire process involved in producing YouTube content, from video planning to filming and editing. The company also built a photo studio where students could practice filming videos and use the equipment and props for free.
Beginning March this year, POSCO ICT will expand this program and start a “Smart School” program that provides IT training to youths and handicapped people who are lack of opportunities to receive an IT education. This program will be run by POSCO ICT employees who are willing to donate their talents in IT.
First, the company will operate after-school classes for elementary school students. These classes will teach YouTube and coding programs to students from 24 elementary schools in the Seongnam, Pohang, and Gwangyang regions. Second, the company has plans to offer AI and Big Data classes for youths residing in Seongnam and who are dreaming of becoming an IT professional. All the classes will be taught by professional lecturers, and POSCO ICT employees (after receiving some lecturer training) will serve as mentors to the students.
