POSDATA and POSCON has launched a merged corporation known as POSCO ICT on the 22nd.

The first CEO will be Hanyong Park, who will take charge of the headquarters at Pohang. The new company’s CI, vision and future strategies will be announced during the inauguration ceremony on the 22nd at Hyoja Art Hall, Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

With a focus on engineering, process automation and IT services as the 3 key areas, the company chose smart grid and u-eco city as new growth momentum, and set the goal of 1.1 trillion won in sales for this year and 2 trillion by 2014.

To achieve these goals, the company has reorganized into 6 fields: IT services, engineering, Pohang, Gwangyang, SM and future growth. Also, an overseas sales department was set up to strengthen overseas operations. There are plans to recruit more employees to expand construction IT and smart grid.

For the engineering field, the company converges engineering technology and IT for construction project, namely u-City and IBS, and covers various fields such as railway, environment, energy, plants and logistics. Also, in process automation, it provides total solutions from level 1~4 for MES, ERP, etc. and plans to expand to other industries including iron, steel, paper, cement and pharmaceuticals. As part of IT services, the company will carry out informatization of existing defense, traffic, manufacturing and public institutions. This year, the technological integration of POSCO subsidiaries will greatly increase IT support capacities.

In addition to the 3 key areas, POSCO ICT has launched a department for future growth. This department promotes new projects in green IT such as smart grid and u-Eco city.

Smart grid uses IT for the development of an intelligent power network that optimizes the production, operation and consumption efficiency of power. POSCO ICT provides services from consulting, solution development to management for the efficient utilization of energy. The company plans to first optimize the energy distribution system of iron works and pursue a low-power micro grid project. POSCO ICT participated in smart renewables of the government’s Jeju complex project for the early commercialization of its solutions.

Along with smart grid, the company will be involved in a u-Eco city project which focuses on the development of an environmentally-friendly, zero-carbon city.

CEO Yonghan Park of POSCO ICT said, “By creating new synergy through the convergence of IT and electronics, we will expand our business areas and enter the global market.” He added, “We have revolutionized the way we work for a smarter work process."

POSCON is a company specializing in engineering and automation while POSDATA excels in IT services. Since the merger was approved on December 8, the two companies have worked towards a successful integration.
