- Hur regarded as the forerunner of ‘change and innovation’ within the POSCO Group

Nam-suk Hur, POSCO’s former Vice-President, has been inaugurated as the new CEO of POSCO ICT.

Other promotions include the appointment of Executive Vice President Young-sub Kim (Head of the Pohang Business Division of POSCO ICT) and Senior Vice President Tong-uk Shim (Head of Administration and Planning of POSCO ICT) as standing directors, while Jae-gu Cho, Posteel’s inspector, was appointed to the position of executive inspector. Also, Yang-hee Choi, president of the Advanced Institutes of Convergence Technology at Seoul National University, whose term as outside director has ended, has been reassigned as an outside director. As a result, POSCO ICT will be governed by four governors - three member of the board and one outside director.

The new CEO Nam-seok Hur graduated from Masan High School and Pusan National University with a degree in metal engineering, and completed his masters and doctoral degree in metal engineering at Soonchunhyang University. Hur joined POSCO in 1974, and since then has worked mainly as an engineer, serving as the head of Gwangyang Steelworks, president of the Research Center, and head of the Production Technology Division.

During his time as the head of Gwangyang Steelworks, Hur Nam Suk is said to have brought “change to the working process” by continuously promoting innovation during morning meetings, luncheons and workshops. Hur is also regarded as the forerunner of the innovative tools Visual Planning, Study Group, and My Machine, bringing about ‘change and innovation’ within the workplace. He is the author of “Strong Sites Make a Strong Corporation” and the winner of numerous technology-related awards such as the Silver Tower Industrial Medal.

POSCO ICT also promoted Executive Vice President Seung-gap Choi (Head of Engineering Division of POSCO ICT) to the post of executive director on the basis of personnel evaluations conducted by the executive committee. POSCO ICT also appointed Executive Vice President In-bong Lee, also from POSCO, as well as Senior Vice President Seok-ju Hwang, Senior Vice President Sung-won Park, Senior Vice President Ju-hyeok Son and Fellow Chang-ho Choi (equal to Senior Vice President) as new directors.
