- Co-developing with POSCO Engineering & Construction …… To be Applied First at Yeongjong Sky City
- Users to Monitor & Control Recharging Status at Home through Home Networks

With interests towards electric automobiles, or eco-friendly automobiles, rising, POSCO ICT (CEO Nam-suk Hur), with the cooperation of POSCO Engineering & Construction (“POSCO E&C”) is attracting the interest of people with its development and patent application of recharging systems for electric automobiles which will be installed in apartment complexes.

The ‘Electric Automobile Recharging System,’ co-developed by both companies, will be linked with smart meters allowing electric automobile drivers to recharge their automobiles within their apartment parking lot at night. This will also allow drivers to use the recharging system within a time zone where the cost is relatively low.

The system will also be linked to the home network system that is already installed within the apartments and the amount used will be charged to the apartment management fees of users. Also, this system allows its users to monitor how much their cars have been recharged while at home. POSCO E&C plans on applying this technology to the Yeongjong Sky City A12 block apartment complexes which will be sold in lots based on how many electric automobiles are used and slowly expand the technology.

This system can be used after users confirm they are residents of the apartment complex through the management server of the apartment using a Radio Frequency (RF) card, which has input into the card the information of the user, or by directly inputting the apartment number to the system. Once the user has been confirmed, he or she may begin recharging his or her automobile. The recharging system will automatically stop once the automobile has been recharged and the power consumption will be transmitted to the management server of the apartment.

A personnel relevant to POSCO ICT explained, “More and more people are demonstrating their interest in electric automobiles as an alternative to reduce carbon dioxide produced by automobiles. The recharging system for electric automobiles will be linked with the smart grid technology, the key technology for eco-friendly green growth, and will allow apartment residents to recharge their cars within their apartment in a time zone where the recharging cost is relatively low.”
