POSCO ICT (CEO, Huh Nam-suk) introduced smart grid technology, an eco-friendly green-growth technology, to domestic and foreign government and economy officials, and industry leaders visiting Korea for the G20 Summit.
During the Korea Smart Grid Week event held in Jeju from November 8~14, POSCO ICT ran Renewables Experience Hall, and sought to elicit methods of cooperation for smart grid projects with related parties, including global enterprises that visited Korea.
POSCO ICT, participating in the Smart Grid Demonstration Complex located on Jeju Island as a managing service provider, is implementing projects in the Smart Renewable area after forming a consortium with related enterprises. In particular, POSCO ICT is developing a system for the intelligent output stabilization of large-capacity wind power generation, and a micro-grid operation system that can be applied to remote islands, city centers, and industrial uses.
The Renewables Experience Hall opened by POSCO ICT for the event was constructed by modifying a mega truck, so that general public can experience the smart grid technology conveniently. The Renewables Experience Hall will be operated mainly around the Demonstration Complex at Gujwa-eub, Jeju City area, and major areas in Jeju Island. During this tour, various smart grid technologies that are being developed as the core future energy technology at Jeju Demonstration Complex, including a battery management system (BMS) and a battery energy storage system (BESS), will be introduced to local residents and tourists.
Meanwhile, the Jeju Smart Grid Demonstration Project was started in 2009 to build world’s largest, most advanced smart grid technology test bed to pilot and verify and develop business models leveraging smart technologies. The project will run until 2013.
