n Geon-jae) has transferred the technology and know-how accumulated in the process of carrying out the steel mill smart factory selected as the world's lighthouse factory to science and engineering students and small enterprises, and is fulfilling its social role as a leading company for smart factory.

Although smart factories are rapidly spreading around large companies in the wake of the 4th industrial revolution, POSCO ICT is sharing its technology to the practical limits of lack of opportunities for on-site technology in front-line educational institutions.

POSCO ICT provides practical training for smart factory for science and engineering students in Pohang and Gwangyang to enhance their technical skills and support employment of talented people. First of all, since this year, its engineers have been giving lectures on smart factory and factory automation technology for eight hours a week to students in the electrical automation department of Suncheon Jeil University.

It also provides relevant education to students at Pohang Pocheol Technical High School and Busan Dongmyeong University, and is applying smart factory technology to the outdated equipment in the school, and expanding support to local schools. The company plans to provide support for talented people who have been trained through education to find employment in related companies as well as in its own companies.

It is also pushing for smart factory technology transfer training for employees of small enterprises. First of all, 10 small-sized enterprises in partnership will be selected to carry out joint projects to spread smart factory by transferring smart factory control technology and providing technical consulting at their simulation centers.

Youn Young-hee, director of POSCO ICT's Smart EIC Business Office, said, "The spread of the 4th industrial revolution has increased interest in smart factory technology and needs for educational opportunities, which has led to the operation of programs that utilize the characteristics of the industry," adding, "By supporting students and small-sized companies to improve their technological capabilities, we are actively promoting the group's "Corporate Citizenship," which is the management ideology."

Meanwhile, POSCO ICT recently established a simulation center linking Pohang, Gwangyang and Pangyo so that its smart factory control solution can be tested in the same environment as the steel mill production site. The simulation center is used for various purposes such as testing and demonstration of control technology functions, demonstration for commercialization, and technical training.
