- Supplies power to the train via the third rail (electric car line)

PCSCO ICT (CEO Hur Nam-suk) recently won the contract for developing and supplying the power supply system for Incheon International Airport's magnetic levitation train, and has started to implement the project in full scale.

Incheon International Airport's magnetic levitation train has been implemented as a national project to commercialize the urban magnetic levitation train. The train will be constructed for 6.6km from Incheon International Airport to Yongyu and Mueui Tourism Complex. POSCO ICT will develop the third rail (electric car line) that supplies power to the train over the entire route.

The third rail is an additional line that is deployed, besides the regular line, in order to supply electric power to the train. Compared with the overhead trolley wire that is suspended in the air, the third rail can be installed at a low price and the height of the facility (e.g., tunnel) can be lowered. Due to these benefits, the third rail is utilized more widely these days. POSCO ICT has been developing this technology independently since 2008 and has successfully commercialized it recently.

POSCO ICT secured a total solution that can be applied to the railroad and light-rail, including a signaling system, communication system, platform screen door (PSD), and automated fare collection system (AFC), by combining IT and engineering capabilities. In particular, “Unitrack” is promoted as a brand that generally refers to the railroad business from last year, and started the screen door supply business for the Brazilian Subway. POSCO ICT is actively developing an overseas market this year, such as the urban subway construction project in the South East Asian region.

“POSCO ICT is capable of providing every kind of railroad service, such as design, manufacturing, construction, and post management services. By using of this project as a success story, POSCO ICT will develop domestic and overseas railway projects more proactively, besides its power supply system,” said one POSCO ICT official.
