- POSCO ICT developed the 60MW class wind power generation farm on the coast ofJeju.
- The smart grid technology will be combined with renewable energy like wind power.

POSCO ICT (CEO,Hur Nam-suk), Korea South East Power(CEO, Jang Do-su), and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (CEO, Park Gee-won) joined hands to develop 60MW class wind power generation farm on the coast of Clean Jeju.

Three companies signed an agreement at the main office of Korea South East Power, located at Samsung-dong, Seoul, on September 2, in order to implement the joint wind power generation project in Jeju. The wind power generation farm will be developed on the coast of Haengwon, Gujwaeub, Jeju Island.

Based on the agreement, POSCO ICT will deploy the land and ocean floor power line, and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will provide the wind power generator and construct buildings on the sea, and Korea South East Power will operate the wind power farm comprehensively. Total 250 billion won will be invested for this project, and will be completed by June 2014. Surrounding area residents already agreed to support the project.

POSCO ICT plans to link the smart grid technology, which is currently tested in Jeju Island, with ocean wind power generation. POSCO ICT is also implementing the test bed project in the Smart Renewable area at Woljeong, Jeju. POSCO ICT will develop the output stabilization technology to supply electricity generated by ocean wind power to households stably, as the ocean wind power generator’s output is subject to weather conditions. When this technology is developed, POSCO ICT will develop a micro grid platform for energy optimization on the islands, city centers, and industrial complexes, and take the lead in technology standardization.

“Making the use of possessing both IT and engineering technologies, POSCO ICT is studying various renewable energy and environmental industries, such as hydrogen energy, bio energy, waste energy, and water processing technology, and is actively nurturing smart grid and battery energy storage (BESS) area as a new business area,” said one POSCO ICT official.
