POSCO ICT transfers technology patents to small and medium-sized companies

2020.07.07

POSCO ICT is practicing co-prosperity by transferring its technology patents to small and medium-sized companies for free to help them overcome Corona 19 depression.

The technology patents transferred this time included 38 technologies that could be used to develop solutions in the energy, environment and IT sectors such as large-capacity battery charging and charging control devices, dry removal devices for harmful substances for emissions, and security management for mobile devices.

As such, small and medium-sized companies that received patents from POSCO ICT will be able to save the budget and time required to develope technologies needed to carry out the new business. It is predicted that BA Energy, an energy storage system(ESS) company, will be able to commercialize the technology immediately by increasing its competitive edge in technology by applying the technology transferred from POSCO ICT to ESS safety management solution. Also, Jacob Studio Co., Ltd., a mobile game producer, plans to provide personalized game services using device security technology.

The patents are transferred in two forms: free transfer of patent rights until the expiration of the patent right and exclusive right to use the technology freely for a certain period of time from the date of the contract.

POSCO ICT, along with specialized organizations such as the Korea ESS Industry Promotion Association, the Korea Environmental Industry Council, and the Korea Invention Promotion Association, has decided to transfer patents to 36 companies after receiving a public offering from companies wishing to transfer patents by technology sector since March, and has recently completed a transfer agreement.

An official of POSCO ICT explained, "By transferring unused technology patents to small and medium-sized enterprises for free, we are practicing corporate citizens, which is POSCO Group's management ideology, by supporting companies suffering from the aftermath of COVID 19."
