POSCO ICT (CEO Hur Nam-Suk) will soon embroider major buildings in Korea with dazzling lights by making use of Media Fasade which is attracting people’s attention as a new trend in culture and arts.
”Media Fasade,” a mixed word using “Media (Art)” and “Fasade,” is a technology involving installation of LED and other lights on building walls and displaying large pictures through image control and network solutions for these lights.
Based on its know-how in landscape lighting business, the company will expand its business scopes to Media Fasade to provide a unified service including system design, building and operation.
So far, POSCO ICT has successfully delivered a number of landscape lighting system building projects including the scenery lighting system for Yeosu Expo and Jongno Tower of Samsung Life Insurance.
In particular, starting this year, it will make use of the Media Fasade Reference built in its Smart Tower in Pangyo to set out on a marketing-developing journey targeting major buildings in Korea, Japan, China and other Southeast Asian countries.
The 70 meter-wide and 33 meter-high Smart Tower in Pangyo, Korea, has 2,600,000 LED lights on its walls ? recognized as one of the most outstanding Media Fasade Reference in Korea.
The tower features high and low-definition segments separated by an image partitioning technology for either independent or interlocked operation.
The high-definition block is capable of displaying HD class pictures and the whole system utilizes LED lights, a design reflecting the cost saving need; an average 5-hour operation a day costs an electric charge of only about 2,600,000 a year.
