POSCO ICT, set to target the Brazilian marketPOSCO ICT won the ITS project for the "Incheon - Gimpo Highway"
2012.07.30- The Intelligent Transport System (ITS), including a Toll Collection System (TCS), will be developed.
- The total project amount to 26.7 billion won for this 28.5 km long highway that will have 6 offices.
POSCO ICT (CEO Hur Nam-Suk) obtained an order for the ITS and TCS for the Incheon - Gimpo Highway, and will embark on the project at full scale.
POSCO ICT will implement the TCS and ITS for 6 offices on the highway section that extends from Sinheung-dong, Jung-gu, and Incheon city, to Yanggok-ri, Yangchon-myeon, andGimpo city (28.5 km, 4-6 lanes). The total amount of order received is 26.7 billion won.
POSCO ICT will design, develop, and operate the ITS, which will improve traffic management efficiency. They will install manual TCSs on 41 lanes and HiPass systems on 13 lanes at the highway tollgates, and they will monitor the traffic flow in real time. All facilities that are installed on the "Incheon-Gimpo Highway" will be able to be managed remotely by the central control center in a concentrated manner. As a result, the system has been evaluated as being a next-generation system that is more advanced than any other traffic systems that have been introduced in Korea so far.
The total solution of POSCO ICT for the road and traffic includes the TCS (HiPass) and ITS. In particular, POSCO ICT is developing and operating the systems related to HiPass for the Korea Expressway Corporation throughout the country, including in Gyeonggi, Gyeongnam, and Chungcheong provinces. The TCS related project has been implemented for the Busan ? Changwon Highway and the Seosuwon ? Uiwang Highway. Based on winning this project, POSCO ICT will diversify its business line in cooperation with POSCO affiliated companies, such as its active participation in the road pavement project in Southeast Asia.
“By making the most of the strengths that we possess in both IT technology and engineering skills, we have all of the technologies and solutions related to road traffic, and can provide all of them together. Based on our references in Korea, we will accelerate our entry into the overseas market more strongly from this year.” said one POSCO ICT official.
If the Incheon ? Gimpo Highway is opened in 2017, traffic delays and congestion caused by the traffic in the city center could be alleviated, and travel costs could be decreased by the travel distance being reduced by 7.6 km (40 minutes travel time). In particular, the trunk road network seems to be reinforced by establishment of smooth network between Incheon North Port, rear distribution complex, and free economic zone (Songdo, Yeongjong, Cheongna), as a part of Seoul Metropolitan road networks that connect Sondgo, Incheon Port, Cheongna, Gimpo Hangang New Town.
