- POSCO ICT provides energy efficiency solutions for POS Himetal in Gwangyang.
- The solutions will spread to domestic industrial sectors after POSCO Gwangyang Iron and Steel Co.

POSCO ICT (CEO Nam-suk Hur) will supply energy efficiency support system for POS Himetal through analyzing the entire real-time energy flow to eliminate all elements of dissipation.

POSCO ICT, for this project, has a plan for supplying the major process, such as electric furnace in POS Himetal, with the industrial energy management system (FEMS, Factory Energy Management System) as well as variable speed device. POS Himetal has produced high purity of molten Ferromanganese in joint venture with POSCO and Dongbu Metal and expects this project to bring yearly 1.67 billion won of energy savings and 9,700 tons of Co2 reduction.

POSCO ICT FEMS is the system that can reduce Co2 emission to save energy by the real-time monitoring and management of the major plants and facilities in the industry. FEMS manifestly provides a manager with the status of facility operation and the real-time flow of energy use, and informs maintenance time because it can detect degradation and problems of the facilities based on energy efficiency. Moreover, considering electricity pricing system for the industry is different between day time and night time, it is designed to make the facilities run preferentially in the night when the electricity price is cheap.

POSCO ICT will construct the first smart industry environment in Korea that maximizes energy efficiency at the oxygen factory of POSCO Gwangyang Iron and Steel Co., achieve efficiency of energy use and reduction of green gas emission, and spread this technology to Pohang and Gwangyang Iron and Steel Co. as well as domestic and overseas industrial complexes.
