- Presence in overseas markets is likely to be accelerated, followed by subway export to Sao Paulo, Brazil
As the railroad system developed by POSCO ICT (CEO, Nam-suk Hur) is internationally recognized by its stability and reliability, export to overseas markets is likely to be accelerated.
POSCO ICT announced last 7th that the controller unit of its subway screen door (PSD) has acquired the SIL Level 4 Certification on the subway screen door (PSD) controller first in Korea. The screen door separates the platform from the railroad track by installing fixed walls and automatic doors on the subway platform. The screen door can be divided into the control system and motorized door.
The SIL (Safety Integrity Level) Certification that POSCI ICT has acquired quantitatively measures the safety and reliability of industrial equipment (electronics, electricity, and signal area), such as the railroad, nuclear power plant, and medical equipment. SIL Level 4 is the highest level.
POSCO ICT has been implementing the project in Sao Paulo, Brazil, since 2010, which provides its PSD system and develops the related system in the subway line 2, 3, and 4. POSCO ICT explained that it has been taking a step further since the early days of market entry in Brazil, such as the development of SIL Level 3 products.
As the U.S. and European countries strongly request the SIL Certification in industrial equipment including a railroad, and Asian market, which records relatively a low growth rate, also requires the certification, the SIL Certification is now recognized as the core qualification to make inroads into foreign markets. With certification acquisition on this occasion, POSCO ICT is expected to develop the system applied with international standards and secure verification capabilities, and take a more advantageous position in overseas railroad business.
