POSCO ICT Appointed Bong-Rae Cho as a New CEO at the Regular Annual General Meeting of ShareholdersPOSCO ICT Commercialized a Defect Detector for Cold Rolling Steel Plates
2013.03.19- The pin hole detector (POINT-PHD) will be applied after verification at the steelwork.
- Quality improvement of steel products is expected by detecting a defect in cold rolling steel plates.
POSCO ICT (CEO, Nam-suk Hur) laid the foundation of advancing the quality level of steel products by one more step, as it commercialized measurement equipment that reduces a defect rate by detecting a pin hole, which is a defective factor in steel products (cold rolling steel plate).
A pin hole detector (POINT-PHD) is a measurement equipment for quality assurance that detects a pin hole sized tens or hundreds ?m in the cold rolling steel plate.
A pin hole in the cold rolling steel plate is a fatal defective factor that causes a small hole on the steel plate during cold rolling, due to defective materials. Therefore, it must be checked during product examination.
Defect Detection Team at POSCO Engineering Research Center and Steel Measurer Business Team at POSCO ICT began joint development of a pin hole detector in 2012 as a new technology combination project, and have secured related technologies.
Since then, POSCO ICT had transferred the related technologies and finished product development in December 2011, and applied the product to 1 Cold Rolling 2 RCL Line, Pohang Steelworks for verification by the optimization test over this last year.
The detector commercialized by POSCO ICT photographs and saves the image of the detected pin hole by keeping pace with the line speed, so that the location, shape, and size of the defect can be identified. As a result, the product received customer can have more confidence in the product.
The pin hole detector is composed of the detecting unit, light source unit that takes a photograph, and processor unit to handle signals. The photographed defect image is displayed on the HMI (Human-Machine Interface).
POSCO ICT plans to apply the pin hole detector to production lines of domestic steel works, including POSCO first and the company will also supply it to overseas steelworks in Indonesia, China, and India.
