POSCO ICT, Win EIC Project, a Steel Mill Material Processing Facility in Vietnam

By utilizing its IT and engineering expertise from decades-long industry experience, POSCO ICT is actively participating in overseas steel mill infrastructure projects.

POSCO ICT(CEO Bong-Rae Cho) has won a project for building an EIC(Electric, Instrument, Communication) facility to run material processing equipment in a steel mill, in Vietnam, FHS(Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation), an affiliate of Formosa Group, Taiwan conglomerate will soon launch the project. The project is to take $37.60Million (KRW42.0 billion) budget.

The material processing facility is designed to unload, pile up, convey and smash main materials used to produce steel products such as iron ore incoming on vessels. The role of POSCO ICT is to build the infrastructure of electricity, instrumentation, and communications for operation of this equipment.

The company will provide jointly with POSCO E&C the infrastructure which will be incorporated into a 7.50 million ton-size steel mill, in Hatin, Vitenam, whose construction is slated to be completed by FHS, by 2015 An official with POSCO ICT said “This project is very meaningful to be a case of the first overseas cooperative project to create a synergy effect for both POSCO and its partners, from the contracting to implementing stage.”

POSCO ICT hopes that, driven by this project, it will have a chance to win tickets to other subsequent projects including steel mills in Vietnam, petro-chemistry and energy-related facilities. Above this, the company is seeking to participate in Vietnamese local projects such as urban and railroad development. Before Vietnam, POSCO ICT has already undertaken a similar project in Brazil, which will provide an infrastructure of a CSP steel mill.

Formosa Group, a Taiwan representative enterprise, which was established in 1954, has 40 affiliates in fields including petro-chemistry, oil refining, energy, textile, electronics, heavy equipment, automobile, transport, IT and steel industry.
