POSCO ICT Cooperates with Tangshan Steel in 9 Areas Including LEDPOSCO ICT, Launching a Joint Project with STX Solar for Building a Photovoltaic Power Plant in Japan
2013.08.28
- Introduce an infrastructure for 4 photovoltaic power plants in Kyushu
- Export an ESS (Energy Saving System) along with solar power plants
POSCO ICT (CEO Bong-Rae Cho) is going to participate in a photovoltaic power plant construction project in Japan, on the basis of its engineering and IT capacity.
POSCO ICT will be responsible for water and electricity distribution for the power plant to be set up in Kyushu, Japan, jointly with STX-Solar (CEO Jinseok Choi), which may be delivered by EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction). EPC is a batch process to cover engineering, purchase of materials and construction.
STX Solar is supposed to establish a special-purpose corporation (named “Southwest Photovoltaic Plant) with Japanese local enterprises to introduce 4 solar power generation plants in Kyushu by the end of the first half of the next year, as the first step in the project. The power energy produced in these plants will be a 10MW scale enough to serve 10,000 households. STX Solar will become the first company in Korea to introduce additionally a 100MW-scale power plant in Japan, following this project.
In June this year, POSCO ICT had already embarked on a Micro Grid building project, including Energy Storage System (ESS) in cooperation with a Japanese battery maker and vendor, Edison Power. This project will introduce a 2MW solar power plant in Katamori, Chiba Hyun, Japan to provide a Micro Grid environment to enable the sale of power energy remaining from independent consumption by the local residential complex.
"In Japan, since the recent disaster, the new and renewable energy market has been growing rapidly, which will replace nuclear power generation. This joint project with STX Solar will pose a great opportunity for us to actively develop Japanese new and renewable energy market, let alone the Micro Grid implementation projects." said an official with POSCO ICT.
