2021.03.29
POSCO ICT is spreading its smart factory solutions built at POSCO's steel mill to domestic manufacturing sites.
POSCO ICT announced that it will build a smart factory based on the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) for Poongsan (CEO Park Woo-dong), a leading domestic non-ferrous metal company, such as copper alloys. The project is to be completed by May 2022.
Through this project, Poongsan Ulsan factory will be able to improve productivity through real-time process tracking and visualization by promoting automation of process logistics and facility operations and establishing a process control system. An integrated production control center will also be established that uses CCTVs and various sensors to monitor overall process conditions.
In addition, a system will be established to collect, analyze, and utilize on-site data generated from entire production processes. POSCO Group's smart factory platform "PosFrame" will be applied to this project. Based on the platform, it is expected that facility, operation, quality, and energy-related data collected from about 20,000 IoT sensors in 16 processes in Ulsan will be stored, classified, and analyzed at high speed. If such a smart factory is established, Poongsan Ulsan plant expects to reduce overall operating costs, such as improved productivity and quality, as well as reduced logistics operation rates and congestion.
Prior to this project, POSCO ICT conducted consulting for establishing a master plan for smart factory by diagnosing the automation and information service level of Ulsan plant for about three months and drawing up improvement measures through simulation analysis. According to the step-by-step implementation plan defined through consulting, smartization will be carried out throughout the entire Ulsan factory.
