POSCO ICT introduced "Vision AI," an AI-based image recognition and analysis solution specialized in manufacturing and construction industries, and will begin full-fledged field application.

'Vision AI' provides functions that automatically recognize and analyze images taken through CCTV by applying deep learning technology. It can recognize actions captured in images and automatically detect and analyze objects. The solution can be applied to security, safety, and quality control in various industrial sites.

CCTV in the field equipped with "Vision AI" evolved from the role of the existing "eye" and can even play the role of "brain" to recognize and respond to situations on behalf of people. By applying the platform, smart security and safety management are possible, such as unauthorized intrusion into security zones at manufacturing plants or construction sites and automatically detecting abnormalities such as worker injuries.

At the same time, it will be possible to check the wearing status of safety equipment such as helmets, gloves, and protective clothing in dangerous work environment. Previously, the person in charge had to be watching the CCTV screen, but there is no need to do so because artificial intelligence detects and informs of unusual situations.

POSCO ICT's 'Vision AI' was certified by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) for its technical excellence. Certification organized by KISA is determined to be successful only when it analyzes images recorded in hundreds of databases and detects them within 10 seconds from 2 seconds before and after the risk factors occur, and more than 90% of the total images must be accurately detected before a certificate is issued. POSCO ICT has been certified in the field of "fire detection" along with "invasion" and "wandering," which are essential items. Based on this proven performance, the company plans to apply a platform to smart safety and security management that meets the characteristics of each industrial site by automatically detecting and analyzing movements captured in the video and warning dangerous situations.

Meanwhile, according to a report by market research firm IMS Research, the global intelligent CCTV market equipped with video recognition has grown from $16.6 billion in 2015 to $29.8 billion in 2020. The industry estimates that less than 10% of CCTVs installed in Korea are equipped with AI technology, and expects the intelligence of CCTVs to proceed rapidly with the development of AI technology.
