POSCO ICT to initiate energy efficiency business to support carbon neutral

2021.10.13

POSCO ICT launches an eco-friendly and low-carbon energy efficiency project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at manufacturing sites.

POSCO ICT announced that it will supply energy-efficiency systems and facilities to the Asia Cement Jecheon plant and Simpac Industries high-purity ferrosilicon (Fe-Si) manufacturing site. It plans to supply high-efficiency control devices to large-capacity blowers operated by Asia Cement and a system to monitor greenhouse gas emissions. Simpac Industries will be equipped with a control system for electricity furnaces and greenhouse gas emissions monitoring system for the manufacture of ferrosilicon, and a system for controlling compressed air.

Through this project, Asia Cement and Simpac Industries are expected to reduce electricity consumption upto 30% compared to the previous one, respectively, to save 400 million won in electricity per year. PosMaster, a facility automation system developed by POSCO ICT, will be applied to the greenhouse gas emission monitoring system built by the two companies through the project. PosMaster has the advantage of integrating PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), HMI(Human Machine Interface), and SCADA functions that control facilities in the field into one system. It can develop into a smart factory in the future by having an infrastructure that can reduce management costs and increase operational convenience through function integration, and link data collected from facilities at the site to the upper systems such as MES.

POSCO ICT plans to expand its carbon-neutral eco-friendly energy efficiency project for energy-consumption businesses such as cement, chemicals, and heavy industries based on the technologies and know-how accumulated while promoting smart factory projects at manufacturing sites.
