- An excellent smog preventer "MPS(Micro Pulse System)" will be exported to the Chinese market in earnest (13 million dollars in the first phase)
- Enhanced dust removal rate by 50%, while saving more than 80% of power consumption
POSCO ICT (CEO Bong-Rae Cho) will export its industrial electric precipitator "MPS (Micro Pulse system)" to China.
POSCO ICT held a ceremony at Pohang on the 5th, December to celebrate MPS export with the participation of related officials, including Bong-Rae Cho, CEO of POSCO ICT and Zheng Lan Jiang of POIST, its agent company in China. The product shipped at this time will be supplied to the Qinhuangdao thermoelectric power plant at Hubei Province through the agent. A total of 16 sets will be shipped first, another 100 sets will be shipped according to the contract. As a result, the total export amount will 14 billion won.
One POSCO ICT official explained that pollutants emitted from the thermal power station, sinter factory at steelworks, and cement factory include dust, sulfur oxides, nitric oxide, and volatile organic pollutant. Due to a serious impact on the human body and environment, each government regulates these pollutants by setting up strong environmental policies.
In particular, the Chinese government has been enforcing strong environmental policies recently, because smog caused by fine dust in large cities emerged as a serious social problem (infant deaths, highway blocking, etc.) Accordingly, the Chinese government strongly requested that carbon thermoelectric power plants and steelworks mainly in 47 cities should reduce dust emission density under 20 ~ 30mg in the next five years . Consequently, related companies have to improve their existing environmental facilities actively.
Currently, an electric precipitator is mostly used to remove pollutants (including dust from the industrial process). It has been pointed out that existing electric precipitators are inefficient in removing fine dust and consume too much electric power. The MPS that POSCO ICT developed first in the world catches fine dust emitted from the chimneys at the industrial complex, including steelworks, using electrostatic force generated by the high voltage pulse. A dust collecting plate is installed on the chimney to remove dust. Compared with the previous DC energization technology, the MPS can improve dust removal rate more than 50%, and reduce energy consumption more than 80%, while improving dust collection performance more than two times. POSCO ICT explained that many thermoelectric power plants and steelworks in China have shown interest in the MPS and requested a technical proposal, because the dust collection efficiency can be increased simply by replacing equipment, instead of increasing existing dust collection facilities.
POSCO ICT will commercialize the MPS and related products as a package product, and apply it to domestic steelworks and thermal power stations. POSCO ICT will also develop overseas markets gradually, such as the Chinese, Indian, and Southeast Asian market. POSCO ICT started the development of the MPS technology in the late 1990's, and successfully developed the product through cooperation among the industry, academy, and research centers. The product was delivered to Pohang Steelworks, GS Caltex, and Boryeong Thermoelectric Power Plant.
"Taking product release on this occasion as an opportunity, POSCO ICT will commercialize the MPS and related products as a package product, and develop domestic industrial settings and overseas markets including China in earnest," said Seung-Ju Lee, POSCO ICT.
