POSCO Group is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to apply AI to industrial sites in earnest, accelerating its manufacturing AX (AI Transformation).
On July 11, POSCO DX, which is promoting AX in the POSCO Group, held a meeting at the Pangyo Office Building, attended by POSCO DX CEO Shim Min-suk and AWS Korea CEO Ham Ki-ho, to announce that the two companies will work together to promote manufacturing AX.
POSCO Group, which is promoting the construction of intelligent factories at industrial sites, will develop AI-based engineering automation platforms such as site-optimized AI agents and *RAG systems through POSCO DX, while AWS will provide various AI applications by building a cloud infrastructure environment.
* RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Gneration): A process that optimizes the output of large-scale language models to reference the internal knowledge base of a specific domain or organization before generating responses.
POSCO Group plans to develop an AI Engineer Agent that automates engineering tasks at industrial sites by utilizing Bedrock, a generative AI provided in AWS's cloud environment, and SageMaker, an AI machine learning service. The AI Engineer Agent will learn and analyze data for the design of on-site facility systems, automatically generating outputs for each stage such as specifications, plans, and drawings, and even completion reports for project completion.
To this end, POSCO DX has been working with AWS's Gen AI Innovation Center, an organization specializing in generative AI, since the first half of this year to implement AI engineer agents as prototypes and to implement an engineering automation platform.
The development of the *Copilot function of the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) system that controls individual equipment at industrial sites is also being promoted. AI automatically generates program coding tasks that field engineers need to perform for PLC operation, and engineers can check the generated programs, which is expected to significantly improve productivity.
* Co-pilot: A tool that efficiently supports users' tasks such as program coding performed by humans based on AI technology.
With the introduction of AI Engineer Agent and PLC Co-Pilot, POSCO Group expects to reduce programming and repetitive documentation work at industrial sites, improving work productivity by more than 30% and creating an environment where engineers can focus on more creative and high-value-added tasks. AWS said it will spare no effort in providing technology for POSCO Group's industrial site innovation and advancement of intelligent factories.
Meanwhile, POSCO Group is applying DX technologies such as industrial AI, robotics, and digital twins to its main business sites such as steel and secondary battery materials to upgrade to an 'intelligent factory', and POSCO DX continues to strengthen its competitiveness in AI and robot automation, which are the backbone of intelligent factories.
