POSCO ICT makes inroads into the Chinese building energy efficiency marketPOSCO ICT to expand highway ETCS (Electronic toll Collection systems) nationwide

- Plans to deploy “hi-pass” systems at 25 highway toll offices and on 25 lanes
- Promotes business at home and abroad with technologies related to both hi-pass and TCS
POSCO ICT (Executive Vice President: Kuk-Hwan Jun) will start the project of deploying a hi-pass system that automatically bills highway tolls to vehicles entering highways.
The project involves deploying “hi-pass” systems at 16 highway toll offices or on 25 lanes of express motorways across the country, including those operated by Korea Expressway Corporation in Seoul, Incheon, Chungcheong, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam. POSCO ICT plans to supply or deploy integrated lane controllers - the core device designed to bill toll charges by recognizing vehicles that pass a given lane - and related systems including integrated antenna, cameras recording violating vehicles, shields, and electronic signboards.
POSCO ICT has already deployed more than half of all the highway toll systems under operation in Korea since 2005 - including those under operation in the Gyeonggi, Gyeongnam, and Chungcheong regions - following the hi-pass system that has been operated on Seoul Outer Loop Highway. In particular, POSCO ICT offers a total solution for highway toll collection, having acquired the Toll Collection System (TCS) in 2010, a manual system, in addition to the hi-pass system. It has provided operation service by deploying toll collection systems on privately funded highways - including Ulsan Bridge, Gwacheon-Uiwang, and Busan-Changwon - utilizing such technologies. At present, the company implements additional privately invested highway construction projects including Incheon-Gimpo and Sanseong Tunnel, Busan.
According to the company, it would prepare more systematically with the current project as a turning point since it is set to deploy new systems at the newly built toll offices starting later this year, and the equipment of existing systems are being replaced.
“POSCO ICT is able to offer all models depending on the circumstances of individual customers or countries since we are equipped with both “hi-pass” system(ETCS: Electronic Toll Collection System) and manual toll collection system (TCS) technologies. We plan to diversify the business by actively participating in projects for constructing highways in Southeast Asian regions at the POSCO family level, based on the current project,” said Jae-Jun Jang, senior manager at POSCO ICT.
