POSCO ICT (Executive Vice President: Kuk-Hwan Jun) is strengthening its business activities in China by organizing a consultative body for further accelerating market exploration while enhancing synergy among business projects promoted in China.
The company plans to explore markets further by enhancing synergy among projects. At the same time, it is searching for additional business opportunities by sharing information on Chinese government policies and local markets through the consultative body, which consists of the responsible officers and employees of the Marketing Office, Pohang and Gwangyang EIC units, and IT unit. The consultative body will be convened once a month.
POSCO ICT has supplied the Micro Pulse System (MPS), the industrial electrostatic precipitator it developed, to help improve the atmospheric environment in China. In addition, the company has promoted projects on logistics automation, energy efficiency, and steel and IT convergence with local steel mills and other industrial sites.
In particular, the China market of MPS is growing exponentially because the country has been experiencing serious smog. MPS is equipment that removes fine dust discharged by industrial sites by having the dust adhere to the precipitator panels using the generated high-voltage electrostatic. Chinese businesses need to improve actively the performance of existing environment protection equipment since the government strongly urges them to reduce – at least by half – the density of dust discharged from coal-burning power stations or steel mills in 47 cities by 2017. At present, the Chinese suffer from serious problems because of smog generated in large cities, including high infant mortality rate and traffic control.
In such situation, POSCO ICT’s precipitator – which has adopted MPS technology – is a differentiated product that can reduce energy consumption by at least 80% while removing two times more dust compared to existing products. In particular, since equipment can be replaced without expanding the existing precipitation room, many Chinese thermal power plants and steel mills have requested for technical proposals, showing strong interest.
In addition, POSCO ICT has promoted the diagnosis of the operational system of Tangshan Steel while deploying an unmanned crane system at the steel mill since the end of last year. Negotiation is underway for POSCO ICT to take the initiative in participating in the project for deploying a new system at a subsidiary of Tangshan Steel based on the diagnosis outcome. Depending on the project progress, POSCO ICT plans to supply related systems to Tangshan Steel and Hebei Steel in the future.
