- Explosive demand expected along with the increase of large buildings fueled by the economic growth of China

POSCO ICT (represented by Kuk-Hwan Jun, Executive Vice President) makes inroads into the building energy efficiency market in China.

The company announced today that it plans to apply its own BEMS (Building Energy Management System) to the POSCO Center in Beijing slated to be completed in October and which will serve as a launch pad for the related business in China.

BEMS ensures efficient energy consumption by monitoring not just basic facilities such as air conditioning, lighting, and hot/cold water supplies but also elevators and many others. According to POSCO ICT, BEMS helps with energy saving - if multiple facilities provide the same function - by monitoring the energy consumption of each facility and operating the one with the best efficiency.

The system also analyzes the energy consumption pattern of each facility and provides optimal operation guidelines that eliminate inefficient operation practices and status. The energy saving performance can be verified immediately – BEMS provides statistics of diverse aspects such as saved energy per function and its costs, which also serves as basis for the consumption forecast.

As a complex of 2 buildings with 25 and 33 floors, Beijing POSCO Center is expected to be a new outpost for the Chinese business of POSCO and its affiliates. The buildings will be occupied by major Chinese companies as well as POSCO affiliates, so POSCO ICT will utilize its consumption patterns as references to drive the energy efficiency business in full force.

“China is witnessing the fast expansion of large buildings fueled by economic growth, and their energy consumption is also on a rapid rise. This means that demand for an energy efficiency system providing an optimal operation environment by analyzing the usage pattern will also explode, so POSCO ICT will take aggressive steps in this sector,” an official from POSCO ICT said.
