Expansion of BHS of 2nd terminal of Incheon Airport completed

2019.12.05

POSCO ICT successfully completed the project of expanding the BHS of the 2nd terminal of Incheon International Airport.

In order to deal effectively with the increase of passengers and consequently the baggage, the company has been working on expanding the baggage sorting line of the BHS of the 2nd terminal, adding the early baggage storage (EBS) system, and expanding the baggage transportation tunnel since September 2017. This expansion will add 11km to the previous total length (42km) of the conveyor belt of the BHS of the 2nd terminal, making it 53km; thus enabling the system to handle more than 6,800 items per hour from 5,400 per hour before the expansion.

POSCO ICT has run 86 pilot operations with 45,400 staff and 110,000 test baggage in limited night hours since August in order to achieve early completion as required by the customer without affecting the performance of the existing BHS. This successful expansion of BHS of the 2nd terminal will allow the airport to handle more baggage and enhance the stability of the BHS.

Meanwhile, POSCO ICT will leverage this feat as a chance to be more aggressive in securing the project of the 4th-stage BHS expansion next year while applying know-how and competitiveness from this expansion to other logistics business, such as establishment of an integrated logistics center.
